EFT tapping

Emotional freedom technique

EFT Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as Tapping) is the emotional version of Chinese acupuncture, minus the needles. It stimulates our energy meridians – the same energy meridian system that is used in traditional Chinese acupuncture.

It’s a fast, easy, and an effective way to reduce anxiety, clear emotional blocks, and become more peaceful and focused in all areas of your life. EFT comes from energy medicine and energy psychology, which is based on the foundational belief that good health relies on proper energy flow throughout the body. Any major stressor can interrupt this flow, creating an energy “block” that can lead to disease.

Anyone who wishes to restore the free flow of energy and re-balance their system should use tapping. Tapping changes belief patterns and reduces stress, and can be a strong ally on your road to recovery.

An April 2015 study, found in the European Journal of Integrative Medicine, looked at the effectiveness of EFT in relieving the fatigue and mood disturbances in women with breast cancer who were using chemotherapy drugs such as Tamoxifen. The researchers noted marked reductions in anxiety, depression, fatigue, and hot flashes.

How to Tap

Faith & Gratitude

1. THE SETUP: Focus on bringing an emotion or issue into your awareness in the present moment. The key to the success of this process is to feel the emotion and set up the disruption in the meridian system. For example, if you are about to start chemotherapy and have fear and anxiety (which is perfectly natural) surrounding it, these feelings could be used in your setup.

2. THE EVALUATION: Vocalize the negative issue (& your feelings about it); and rate it on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst possible; then, vocalize a more positive perception of the issue (even if it is just to accept it).  For this example, we will use ‘fear of the unknown‘ as our negative issue.

3. THE AFFIRMATION: While rubbing the “Sore Spot” on the chest or tapping both hands (the ‘karate chop point”), repeat the following affirmation three times:

“Even though I have this fear of the unknown, (this will be your specific issue) I deeply and completely love and accept myself.” This is considered “The Short Sequence”. Or, you may prefer to use “The Miracle Reframe” with the following affirmation, “Even though I have this fear of the unknown, anything is possible and miracles are happening now.”

4. THE TAPPING SEQUENCE: Using your index and middle fingers, tap with a medium pressure about seven times on each of the tapping points while repeating the following reminder phrase once at each point: “This fear.” After 3 rounds, “I will overcome ” at each tapping point. When finished this last round, gently tap wrists together and simply say the word, ‘peace’.  The order of the Tapping Points are:  1-Eyebrow, 2-Side of Eye, 3-Under Eye, 4-Under Nose, 5-Chin, 6-Collarbone, 7-Under Arm and 8-Top of Head.

5. THE RE-EVALUATION: When you have completed the tapping sequence, take a moment to focus on the emotion or issue again, and notice how it feels. Evaluate it again between one and ten to bring any difference in your experience into your awareness. You may need to repeat the process a few times to achieve the stress reduction desired.
